Description :
Acrylamide is a major ingredient in polyacrylamide gels, which are used for electrophoretic separation of both nucleic acid fragments and proteins. DNA fragments generated by restriction endonuclease digestion, dideoxy sequencing, or the Maxam and Gilbert sequencing methods can be separated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). Proteins can be separated by a variety of techniques with polyacrylamide gels, including denaturing gels using SDS or urea, isoelectric focusing gels, and native gels in a wide variety of buffers. Acrylamide is recrystallized three times to ensure a highly purified product.
